Reasons To Live

REASONS TO LIVE:

Here are some reasons that I have found, that helped me to stay alive:

  1. My family/friends deserve my being there for them.  They need my love.
  2. I do have many talents, and I have helped others on numerous occasions.  I help others whenever I can. I have accomplished _________, ___________, and ____________.
  3. I’m smart, but it will not always show in every situation/moment.  I’m human and I can get into some pretty rough scrapes. My virtues still are there within me, and I must adapt to my situation by believing in my virtues.  I am a survivor.  I may not be “in my element” right now, but I will be able to succeed in attaining my goals later, perhaps in a different setting.
  4. I love God and I could not hurt Him by ending my life.  He created me and intends for me to live the life he has given me. (If he wanted me dead, He would have arranged for that.  But He didn’t.  Here I am.) This is a matter of obedience to God.  He wants me alive, and I must cooperate.  He is God, which means that what He wants wins out over what I want.
  5. Fear of hell.  What if I don’t find peace?  What if the afterlife is worse than what I am going through now?  It could be.
  6. Fear of not making it to heaven.  I will miss having a beautiful life of love and happiness.   Maybe if I stick this out, it will be worth it in the end. I may be surprised.  Happiness may not be that far in the future.  It may be coming soon in this life, and happiness could even be presently working itself out for me, unbeknownst to me.
  7. I am brilliantly designed with wonderful capabilities and limitless potential. I think of the brilliance of the design of my body: Human anatomy and physiology on a molecular scale, as well as my intellectual, emotional, and spiritual capabilities. God put me together with great care and love.  I must appreciate all that God has done for me.  It would be wrong to destroy all His work.  There is no chance that I am simply DNA, sequences of protein building blocks.  I am more than the sum of my parts.  I am not an animal, as evolution dictates.  I am heir to salvation and a child of the King!  The more I study about how my body works, the more amazed I am, and the more convinced I feel that there is a One GreatDesigner.  Everything in creation has its purpose and its place.
  8. My purpose on this Earth is to love, worship, and glorify God. That is why I was born. I cannot tell myself anything else, because anything else is a lie. John 4:23 confirms this idea:“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”9. If other people are so valuable and lovable, why not me?  Am I any worse than they are?  Would I condemn a friend for their imperfections?  Would I “put the baby out with the bath water,” or would I have mercy on that friend?  And if I would have mercy, then isn’t it true that God would also have mercy on me, even in my faultiness?  I allow God to love me and save me.10. I can make a separation between me and my behavior.  If I made a mistake, that is a fleeting behavior, but my person is still here, and I’m still valuable.  So throw out the behavior, not yourself.  We wouldn’t cast away a friend for one mistake, or even two or more.  So why would we throw away ourselves?  They say, “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.”  Just throw out the bathwater.

Some people need a little help.  It’s OK to ask for help. Everyone needs it at some point.

From darkness to light: You deserve change!  Ask the Lord for strength.

9. Someday, I may be a truly happy person, living a happy life, and/or I might even do something great, like invent something, or contribute to man’s knowledge and understanding.  I may save a life or lives.  I may help someone who really needs me.  God has a purpose for me in my difficulties.  “For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.  You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.”

Psalm 66:10-12.  Life is a challenge, to say the least, but it will pay off in the end.  Take the challenge to take a stand against darkness and to bring light to others.  Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”  John 8:12.“…for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.  Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that [we] may rejoice in the day of Christ that [we] have not run in vain or labored in vain.”  Philippians 2:13-16.

10. I am not alone.  I am not the first person to feel this way.  If only I can communicate with someone else who loves me.  If only I could ask for help in solving my problems.  Other people might have a kind response towards me.  Even if they aren’t kind, it is brave and virtuous on my part to make an attempt to get better.  I affirm myself for trying.

11. Even if I am totally alone and no one else stands on my side, I still have God.  I still believe I am “beloved.”  I believe I am worth all that God put into me.  So much time, effort, resources, and experiences went into making me the person I am today.  There is no one else like me, and there is no one who can take my place.  Even if my virtues are not presently showing, they are indeed still there, and can be accessed at any time.  God indeed loves His people.  He loves me.  I know this, because the angel said to Daniel:
““O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace to you; be strong, yes, be strong!” So when he spoke to me I was strengthened…”  Dan 10:19

There’s virtue in the struggle…
absolute breakthrough!  Victory is your birthright because Christ died for all of us to be victorious over sin.
